I recall you said he had a “pain contract’with a hospital and he was possibly denied some pain relief he needed.
Look,I am not someone you’d like to know as a friend,but from personal experience I understand constant and intractable pain.I am now better thanks to a good young lady doctor and a really good surgeon,but why a “contract”?The guy had something serious happen to him and if he wound up medically addicted-so what?It’s not some “moral”question.
No one should be driven to suicide if there is a way to treat the pain regardless of the side effects.(like addiction)
I found David annoying,but he didn’t deserve being abandoned by providers.
I personally avoided using painkillers except as an inpatient so I could move around and not get embolisms.
Addiction by necessity and addiction for pleasure couldn’t be more different.

Yes, too many people are in constant suffering. I think about Dave when I talk to some of my patients, and I try a little harder because of him.
