Lazy Wife

Lazy wife that I am, I decide to let the Hot Wok make our dinner. Working wife that I am, I decide we can afford it.

Now I am presented with three choices. Drive six blocks to get it, call for delivery, or be carbon-neutral and grab one of the re-usable grocery bags to haul it back on foot

I can legitimately say, in an aggrieved tone of voice, that–I WORKED. And yes, I’m tired. But I have the great good fortune to live on a walkable street. Fortunately, it is a lovely day, premature summer, and the people-watching is grand.

The impact of one person’s choice to walk rather than drive is zip. But multiply that and you’ve got the Oil Barons worried.

I continually search for ways to make my vices work for me. Anyone got some ideas for using laziness and procrastination to better the world? It’s all I’ve got to go with, so I have to make the best of it.

It’s a swing between making pie from the marked-down produce to save money vs supporting my local businesses by picking up Szechuan chicken. Centralized cooking must have some economies of scale.

There’s the energy I save by not having a lawn, gallons of water and no mower fumes and noise. Being too busy to buy new clothes and just wearing the same ones. Enjoying my own wonderful city instead of traveling– unless I really want to. You won’t want to eat off my kitchen floor, but the plates are clean, that’s enough.

Today I’m playing with this blog and waiting to make a phone call to see if I’ll be working this morning. A day off would be nice, I’ve got a lot of nothing to do.

  1. We have a Chinese restaraunt a few blocks away. These folks barely speak english, but our community has really adopted them.
They’ve had three little boys since they came here, and grandma and cousins work there too.
    No atmosphere.
The kids are growing up in the restaraunt, you get to see every screaming fit. They play some gawd-awful country music over the intercom. Grandma often tries to put more food on your plate…..
    WE LOVE IT!
I’ll take authentic over atmosphere anytime.

  2. eating with chop sticks is fun. i tried it as a weight-loss technique and unfortunately it didn’t make me eat slower– i learned to use the chopsticks faster.
