Wooly Fair
So I went to the Wooly Fair on Saturday in the afternoon and around dusk. I suspect that the party really got rocking later on, but by then I’m sipping Ovaltine in my snuggy. The tower of flowers was cool, and I really enjoyed strolling around the Steel Yard. Fashion statements abounded, people watching was fun.
From Kinsley St. down Promenade I got caught in a massive traffic jam.

That convinced me to take the bus downtown to Waterfire. It worked out really well, getting off at the tunnel and getting back that way too.
I had the best spot to hear the Rhode Island Philharmonic live, standing on a bridge near the WWI monument. My brother was walking by and told me the sound was better there than in front of the orchestra. It was the biggest crowd I’d seen there yet, and I was thanking the gods that I wasn’t going to hike a mile to my car or spend an hour getting out. The bus was crowded, and I noticed that this night the riders were a diverse mix.
The first year Waterfire happened they had a system set up to catch a bus from designated spots– the buses said ‘Waterfire’ on the front which struck me as surreal and adding to the magic. I’d like to see more Rhode Islanders have better public transit and fewer car headaches.
