Z Gallery

How Federal Hill has changed. I drive up and down Atwells Avenue often, undeterred by the rumor that the Holy Hand Grenade is going to drop on an unwary driver someday. I hadn’t seen the night life for a while, and each elegant restaurant is more enticing than the last. (see, I got that right)

I was up there last night at Gallery Z to see old friend Philip Palumbo and other videographers at an opening for their Video Art/Projection/Installation. (Click for a sample of their work)

Flat screens instead of canvases are on the walls this week. One of the most delightful was Phil’s footage of the old Federal Hill, with Governor Garrahy showing up at what looked like a St.Joseph’s Day festival, and a Buddy Cianci with authentic hair.

Last night’s opening featured a talk from Phil and friends, who were organizers of the Private Parts exhibit (long-time Rhode Islanders will remember) and Electron Movers and one of my favorites, The Emergency Broadcast Network.

Do not despair if you missed last night. Another reception is planned for Thursday, November 19, 5-9pm, 259 Atwells Avenue, and the show is up till November 28.
